With this in mind, Design Stream and identity specialist Sven Vogel teamed up to create the Emissary credit card concept- an engaging way for us to take on board just how we as individuals can make a difference to climate change.
The Emissary card concept pairs advances in flexible screen technology with next generation card chip design- The vision being a credit card which can display messages about our consumption of goods and services. We believe the strength of this idea is based on a message being delivered as moving images on a card at the point of purchase, making us immediately aware of what impact our consumption will have on the environment.
Emissary is part of a series of projects developed at Design Stream looking at how we can use technology to raise our awareness of our own environmental impact.
Understanding your impact on the environment - Emissary
Environment Secretary David Miliband recently put forward the idea of credit cards for carbon emissions (see Audit Commission Annual Lecture). Whilst the roots of this idea may be controversial, we believe smart credit card technology will soon allow us to actually see our carbon credits fall each time we buy something on the card itself. What better way to gain an understanding of how our lifestyle impacts on the environment.
