Sentient was a concept generation exercise by Design Stream, attempting to match new technology with future applications linked to emergent behaviours. It investigates the future of telecoms, where communication extends beyond the audio and visual to encompass our tactile senses.

Using pressure sensitivity, or touch, as a means of creating a more emotive type of interaction across distance, Sentient utilises technology already field tested in medical applications to carry out remote patient diagnostics.

The project highlights Design Stream's ability to conceptualise realistic consumer propositions for current and future needs and shows the way of ensuring success for a business based around technology.

Sentient was awarded Bronze in Japan's prestigious Osaka Design Competition.
