Guide Path Reflector
The north of Japan is covered with snow for half of the year, necessitating the use specialised roadside equipment to cope with harsher weather conditions.
Here, roadside reflectors are preferable to energy consuming lighting however due to snowfall they require regular manual removal of snow to stay visible to oncoming traffic.
Working as part of the R&D team at Sekisui Jushi in Japan, we developed a new reflector design which would be much more resistant to the build up of snow yet still appear as a normal highway reflector to oncoming motorists.
A series of concepts were developed to prototype level for performance testing in Japan 's Hokkaido region with excellent results.
The final product proved to be 40 times more resilient to the build up of snow compared to conventional reflectors and was successful in being awarded Japan 's prestigious G-Mark award for good design .
